At a time when life is not normal, schools and businesses are closed, one thing we all still have is Art. What is Art? Art is everything. The things we touch each day, express as much art as the pictures hung on a wall or in a gallery. A chair, a handle of a tea cup, the flowers in the backyard, all express some interpretation of what is good and basically beautiful. That is Art. Even the arrangement of hanging pictures is an Art, as the pictures themselves, because the “value of appreciation” can be enhanced by the hanging of the pieces.
Preparation in the arts will be valuable to college entrants whatever their intended field of study. The actual practice of arts can engage the imagination, foster flexible ways of thinking, develop disciplined effort, and build self-confidence. – Academic Preparation for College, The College Board
