BASIC RECITAL INFORMATION AND FAQs
Welcome to the Academy of Movement Dance Department of the Yocum Institute!
We hope you are thoroughly enjoying your dance class/es. Below is a brief overview of how our recitals work!
WHO PARTICIPATES?
All students participating in any choreography based dance classes are invited to perform in recital. The excluded classes that do NOT participate are skill based classes including Adult Ballet, ALL Tumble, ALL Conditioning, ALL Ballet Technique, Jumps Leaps and Turns, Tricks and Turns and Flexibility, Core and Cool down classes.
IS IT MANDATORY?
Recitals are not mandatory. All students can choose if they want to participate. We just need to know within the first 3 weeks of classes for costume ordering purposes. If we don’t get a response via email after the Costume information email we assume all students are participating and will be charged a costume fee.
HOW DO I GET A COSTUME?
A few weeks into class we will have a staff member size each of the students for the class selected costume. The cost of the costume is $75 and includes tights if necessary and all costume accessories. All additional costumes for the semester come with a 10% discount ($67.50). Costume fees are posted to the parent portal approximately a week before the charge date (Oct 10th for Fall semester and March 15 for Spring). (Dance FX Competition costumes can be up to $85) When ordering Fall class costumes and returning to the same exact class/same exact section you will be able to reuse your Fall costume for the Spring! **Once your costume is handed out please try it on your dancer within 72 hours and let us know immediately if there are any issues. WHAT ABOUT SHOES?
If you are new to the class verify the style and color of the class shoe for recital. You should be sized for your class appropriate shoe in the beginning of the semester. Proper dance shoes must be worn for Tap, Ballet, Lyrical and Jazz. Sneakers are appropriate for Tumble and Hip Hop. WE DO ASK THAT OUTSIDE SHOES ARE NEVER WORN DIRECTLY INTO AND ON THE STUDIO FLOORS. All shoe orders should be turned around in one to two weeks and charged to the parent portal before pick up.
WHERE IS RECITAL?
Our recitals are held in the Auditorium of Wilson High School in West Lawn PA
HOW MUCH IS IT?
Recital tickets are approx $15. Dual show families (families attending both the 11:30am and 4:30pm show because of student scheduling) are given the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets for $10 during a designated “Dual Show Discounted Ticket” period.
CAN MY CHILD SIT WITH ME?
All students are required to be backstage with the exception of our tiniest dancers. All 3 and 4 year olds in our Toddler Tunes sections can sit on a Parent Lap for the ½ of the show in which they do NOT perform. There is always an intermission halfway through the shows. (Approx 2 hours).
HOW DO I PURCHASE TICKETS?
We use an online ticket vending source called Seat Your Self. Tickets will go on sale approximately 2 weeks before the show date. There is a ticket purchasing order so purchase links are sent out every few days. When your group is up to purchase you just click the link, choose your seats, check out and print your receipts. ALWAYS double check the show times your dance is scheduled for BECAUSE THERE ARE NO TICKET REFUNDS.
RECITAL VOLUNTEERS:
We are ALWAYS looking for backstage and front of house parent volunteers. A few weeks prior to recital we will send a volunteer sign-up list out. All volunteers must have clearances. If you don’t have clearances on file there will be link for a simple volunteer clearance procedure.
CAN I TAKE PICTURES OR VIDEOS?
You are welcome to take pictures or videos of your students as long as there is NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY.
CAN I ORDER A VIDEO?
You can order a professional HD Recital Video link for $25 of either or both shows.
WHEN WILL I KNOW WHAT SHOW I AM IN?
Recital Schedule is released 1 month prior to the show. It will have a list of each class and whether they are scheduled for the 11:30 show, the 4:30 show, or if they have performances for multiple classes in both shows. PLEASE PLAN ON BLOCKING OFF THE ENTIRE DAY as rushing from one event to another is a ton of added stress for your dancer. There is also know way for us to pinpoint start and end times. Each show is approximately 2.5 hours.
