Jennifer Caputo is a graduate of West Chester University where she earned a BS in Kinesiology and a Minor in Dance Education. While attending WCU she was a Member, Captain and Choreographer for the West Chester University Dance Team and was also a recipient of the Charles Swope Memorial Foundation Scholarship awarded for academic excellence and student leadership. Post graduation, she attended Alvernia University and earned a Masters Degree in Education. She has been teaching Health, Physical Education and Dance for over 20 years. For the last 20 years she has been employed by the WSD where she enjoys teaching HS Health, PE and dance in addition to choreographing for musicals and coaching the WHS Dance Team. While at Wilson she created and implemented one of the states few public High School Dance curriculums for a PE called Wellness through Dance.
She was a professional dancer for the MISL Philadelphia Kixx and a 3 year member of the NBA’s 76ers Dance Team where she fell in love with the community service aspect of the job. In 2005 she returned home to create the Reading Fightins Pro Dance Team and the Diamond Divas Mini Dance Team. Caputo’s team has platformed over a dozen young women to professional performance careers in the AFL, NBA AND NFL.
In 2007 she opened the doors to ACADEMY OF MOVEMENT LLC. Approximately 10 years later, after a merger with The Yocum Institute for Arts Education, Caputo is the Department Head and Director of over 300 Dance Families and holds 5 consecutive National Dance Team Titles. In 2020 she was named the Director of the East Coast Karate Martial Arts program as well.
She is an active member of PSAPHERD and has presented several times at our local, state and national conferences. In 2016 she was awarded the Pennsylvania State Dance Teacher of the Year. In 2016 she served as the Vice President Elect of Dance and was the Chair of the annual 2017 Dance Gala as well. She continuously strives to be a role model for hundreds of young adolescents and provide quality opportunities for her students to fall in love with dance and movement. She has volunteered countless hours to provide valued service to fundraisers for her immediate community and the arts community in general. In March of 2020 Caputo was awarded the D M Frank service award for exceptional service in her professional field.
