Stephanie Trick and Paolo Alderighi, Jazz Piano Duo
“Broadway and Hollywood in Stride and Swing”
Beginning in the late 1920s, American songwriters began working for the film industry. In fact, 1927 marked the end of the silent film era with “The Jazz Singer,” starring Al Jolson. From that moment, the composers of the Great American Songbook, such as Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, and others, became active not only on Broadway but also in Hollywood.
The relationship between jazz music and the soundtracks of American films of the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s is evident: they are very often compositions in song form that lend themselves well to being interpreted in a jazz style. Many of these pieces have become beloved “standards,” performed in numerous versions by the great jazz players.
The piano duo of Stephanie Trick and Paolo Alderighi will present original arrangements of songs from the classic musicals of Broadway and Hollywood.
